The Land of Fire and Ice

Inspired by the seasonal theme of Iceland, Sport Luxe evokes the mood of an arctic seafarer and modern mountaineer. Taking reference from climbing gear and sailing paraphernalia, warmth and protection from the natural elements plays a central role. 

The Viking heritage of Iceland inspired both quarters of my Dance Statement collection. Viking navigation influenced the first quarter. The central print was inspired by Icelandic Calcite, known as a “Sunstone” which Vikings used to find the direction of the sun even in overcast skies. Transparencies of the ice and stone are replicated in lightweight jersey and power mesh, while the shapes of viking ship hulls is mimicked in seamless layers and knitwear. The second quarter is dark and moody, taking influence from Viking protection symbols and mystical rituals. Inspired by FKA Twigs, the knots and braids of her hair references knots of rope on Viking ships and details have a hand crafted quality.
